Motorola developing 8 devices for release by Christmas, including a Nexus
The
odd thing is how some of the devices are dependent on others. Word has
it that if the X+1 does well, the DROID Turbo may be scrapped, and only
one of either the X Play or Moto S could be released, depending on the
display size users like. However, regardless of if the 5.9-inch Moto S
is scrapped in favor of the 5.2-inch Moto X Play, the Motorola Nexus
will still be 5.9-inches and be very similar to the larger Moto S. It is
still unclear if the Moto S or X Play would be on multiple carriers or
just Verizon, but we would bet on multiple carriers, because...
Even
the DROID lineup doesn't seem to be as Verizon-exclusive as we are used
to. Word has it that the DROID, DROID Maxx, and DROID Turbo could be
released on AT&T under different branding. And, one of the DROID
devices on Verizon may have some sort of Star Wars promotion to go along
with the release. *Update* Many of you have asked about the previously
rumored 6.3-inch DROID Quantum. We asked our source and it looks like
there are no smartphones over 6-inches in Motorola's pipeline.
So,
to simplify - there are 8 total devices in production, but it is
possible that only 6 of them are released before the end of the year.
All of the devices appear to be heading for multiple carriers, with no
real exclusives. Motorola is going hard this holiday season. Do you guys
think that's the right move?
